Today we are making a simple handmade card.  This sketch is one that you can go to over and over.  It also leaves lots to your imagination in terms of what to use for the larger layer such as an embossing folder (as today's sample shows), designer series paper or just flat card stock.  Of course you can also add whatever embellishments you'd like – for this sketch you won't find a recommendation which leaves the “world as your oyster” to decide.

The Card

Based on the sketch above, you'll find one of the most popular Stampin' Up! embossing folders, Forever Plaid 3D, in the background.  You'll also see that I used one of the all-new In Colors, Strawberry Slush.

Let's Make It

Now let's make this simple card. You'll find dimensions below as well.

  1. Stamp the greeting using Darling Duck ink on a scrap of Basic White
  2. Die cut the greeting using the smallest square from the Stylish Shapes dies
  3. Die cut the next larger square from the Stylish Shapes dies from a scrap of Darling Duckling
  4. Die emboss the Strawberry Slush layer with the Forever Plaid 3D folder
  5. Assemble the card as follows:
    • Glue the Strawberry Slush to the card base
    • Glue the Darling Duckling square to the lower right
    • Add the greeting square using Stampin' Dimensionals
    • Add a few flat pearls in Darling Duckling

Here's a close up of the layered greeting and embellishments.  I will forever love how coordinating your ink, card stock and embellishment just makes your card look so polished.

And if  you'd like a more detailed view of that gorgeous embossing folder – here you go!

Your Turn

I hope you'll save this sketch and use it often.  Remember that this is just a launching off point.  If your greeting is larger create bigger squares.  Add some ribbon with pearls or skip the pearls.  Try something else for the major layer besides an embossing folder – or maybe use one, but match the card base color?
