world-better-place

You'll notice a new theme to some of my blog posts.  If you've read my blog for awhile you might remember that my daughter left for college in August.  It was a little easier (and I mean very little) to drop her off at the airport this time.  Now that I'm back to blogging I will be sharing the cards I make for her as well as all the other samples I enjoy making for you.  This card was inspired by the Fresh Made Sketches sketch for this week.

FMS Final 119-001How did I come up with layers for this card?  Glad you asked!  I wanted to use the “you make the world a better place” stamp.  Then I remembered that there was a world map in the Epic Day This and That DSP.  When I pulled it out I saw the hexagons in the print.  That let me to the Hexagon Hive Thinlit Die and then it just made sense to add in the Honeycomb Embossing Folder to make the flag in the sketch.  Of course the whole point of the card is that I miss Taryn, so that sentiment from Bubble Words seemed perfect.

QUICK TIP

Be sure to sandwich wax paper between the Hexagon Thinlit and your card stock.  This will make it much easier to remove the card stock from the framelit.  If you forget, use a paper piercing tool or something else thin and pointy to carefully remove it.  If this is the case you'll probably want to start with the center and work out to the corners as the corners are so delicate.

Here is the quick rundown on the steps to make this card:

  1. Cut the card from Pool Party card stock as a hotdog cut and fold in half.
  2. Cut the Hexagon Hive Thinlit out of Gumball Green card stock.
  3. Cut a piece of Epic Day DSP 4″ by 4″.
  4. Use the Paper Trimmer to cut the desired angles.
  5. Emboss a scrap of Daffodil Delight card stock with the Honeycomb embossing folder and cut to a 1 1/4″ width.
  6. Use the 1″ square punch to create the flag end.
  7. Stamp in Basic Gray ink and cut with Word Bubble Framelit and framelits.
  8. Stamp second start burst in Gumball Green and cut out the “world”.
  9. Layer start burst and “world” as well as just sayin' “miss you already” with dimensionals.
  10. Layer the rest of the card together.
