Single layer cards can be stunningly beautiful in their simplicity. Simple is the key. If you're only going to use one layer of cardstock then you need to keep it simple. That doesn't mean you don't get to add a “wow”, but it needs to be one, carefully chosen “wow”.
STAMPING TIP: For this card my one “wow” was the Silver Dazzling Details. This great new product comes in Silver, Basic and Cherry Cobbler. It's a little bottle of liquid glue and glitter that packs quite a punch. Just beware that a little goes a long way. There is a great long pointy tip that dispenses the glue/glitter. I recommend you put a little dot where you want it to go and then use the tip to spread it out.
There are other “wow's” you can consider besides glitter, but you need to be mindful that you ‘re making a single layer card so you don't want the weight of the addition to distort the card. For example, if I added one or two small buttons to this card that would be fine. More buttons or a heavy one like the Silver Basic Buttons in the Spring Catalog would weigh down the card so the recipient would lose the joy of the simple, light card.
Consider a line of ribbon, a little dry embossing, a punched out window to the inside of the card. These would be great “wow's” that wouldn't overpower your card.
