Today we are making a quick and easy Halloween card using Sketch #1.  If you'd like an entire collection of sketches to use anytime – check out my 10 Sketches eBook in my Digital Downloads.

I love using this sketch anytime I have a few stamps that I really want to show off. In this case it was two stamps and a die, but you get the idea. Remember that groups of three are always pleasing to the eye and brain whenever you're designing your cards.

The Card

Here's the card we're making today.  I just created the three elements and then placed them according to the sketch – easy, peasy!  Since I made a pretty busy background with those stripes, I added rectangles behind the elements to break it up.  Notice that the rectangles don't completely mat the images, but they're big enough to quiet the background and make the images the star!

The other element to notice is that I chose Darling Duckling for the rectangles because of the haunted mansion.  I wanted it to appear like the whole house was lit by moonlight by using this yellow.

Measurements

Here are the measurements used to make this  card.  Remember to mix them up to suit your supplies:)

  • Basic White – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ score at 4 1/4″
  • Basic White – 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • Basic White – scraps for die cuts
  • Basic White – 2 1/2″ x 1 1/4″ for greeting
  • Darling Duckling – scraps for die cuts

Let's Make It

Now let's make this simple card for Halloween.  The background stamp has been retired, but the instructions explain how to use it.  I've also included a few options below using just the supplies you've already pulled based on the Supply List above.

  1. Stamp the greeting in Tuxedo Black on the Basic White rectangle and then the cat and dog images on Basic White scraps.
  2. Color in the cat and dog as shown.
  3. Die cut the cat and dog.
  4. Ink up the background stamp with Timid Tiger ink.  Then use a piece of computer paper to “pull” some of the ink off.  Last stamp the image on your Basic White layer.
  5. Attach the die cuts to coordinating rectangles from the Nested Essentials dies cut from Darling Duckling card stock.
  6. Assemble the card using glue or adhesive for the background layer and the other four elements.

Here's a close-up look at the colored in dies.  You can also see how the dimension of the die cuts on the rectangles really makes the card pop.
