Today we are going to Make a Happy Birthday for Dad Handmade Card.  This card follows all the guidelines of a masculine card.  If you're not sure what the “guidelines” are – check out this post where I break them all down for you.  Today's card is based on Sketch 11 from my growing sketch library.  If you'd like to grab Sketches 1 – 10 check out my digital download store.

Below is the sketch we are using for today's card.

The Card

Here's the card we're making today.  I made a few variations from the sketch.  Most notably I skipped the bow since this is a guy card.  I also skipped matting the thin strip that goes horizontally across the card.  The greeting is enlarged and slid off to the right too.  Sketches are meant to be a launching pad.   Sometimes you jump off and go straight into the water – copy the sketch as is.  Sometimes you jump off, twist, rotate and then hit the water.  This card is somewhere in between those two moves.

Let's Make It

  1. Stamp greeting on Basic White and add the tools as borders at the top and bottom
  2. Use the die to create an argyle pierced pattern by running the die at an angle along the Basic Beige and then repeating this after twisting the Basic Beige to the opposite angle
  3. Add the Sea Secret and Basic Beige layers to the card base
  4. Add the strip of Florals in Bloom paper
  5. Add the greeting (Basic White) layer to the card far to the right using Stampin' Dimensionals

Here's a close-up look at stamped greeting layer.  You could easily use this stretch version of this sketch and fill the “greeting layer” with flower stamps and a flowery greeting.
