Today we are making a quick and easy Christmas Card alternative – aka Happy New Year's card. Why is this a great alternative to Christmas Cards? Well, it buys you an extra 10 days to send your cards. Remember that the mail service gets really jammed up from mid-December through Christmas Eve. After that things go much better. You can pop these cute cards in the mail around the 20th of December and they should arrive with no troubles. Now I am referring to how things operate here in the USA. If you have some insights about other places in the world, please let me know in the comments!
The Card
Here's the card we're making today. I'm going to explain how I made this card in detail. I will also give you some ideas to change up the look.
The Supplies
Next, let's review the supplies used to make this project. I kept everything very simple knowing that you might be making a lot of these.
Let's Make It
Now let's make this simple card for the busy stamper. The next section has all the dimensions – told you I've got you covered.
- Stamp the “cheers” greeting and three wine bottles on scrap Basic White card stock
- Color the wine bottles using Stampin’ Blends as shown
- Die cut
- the medium sized rectangle in Basic White from the Everyday Details dies
- the second largest banner in Basic White from the Nested Essentials dies
- the three stamped wine bottles from the Attention Shoppers dies
- six more wine bottles from scrap Basic White using the Attention Shoppers dies
- Die emboss the Basic White layer with the Distressed Tile folder
- Glue the blank wine bottles behind the colored ones making three stacked wine bottles
- Glue the wine bottles to the center of the die cut rectangle
- Glue the die cut rectangle to the upper left corner of the die embossed layer
- Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to add the greeting banner to the lower right of the die embossed layer
- Add a few Adhesive Backed Dots to the die embossed layer
- Attach the card base to the embossed layer using Multipurpose Liquid Glue
This gives you a better image of the stacked wine bottles. If you don't want to do all the extra die cutting you can always use Stampin' Dimensionals on the colored bottles.
Your Turn
Do you like the idea of this card, but maybe not exactly what you're seeing? Here are some alternatives to consider:
- don't use wine bottles, use three of any small images
- cut a rectangle for the layer behind the colored images and hand cut a banner for the greeting
- change the greeting shape to a circle, oval or square
- use different embellishments or even twine/ribbon
- use a different embossing folder to change the mood of the card
- replace some of the white elements with colored card stock
