The Card

Today's project uses that adorable tree from Iconic Images again.  I told you that I love this tree.  This time it's got a whole new twist with strips of designer series paper.  Cool side note: this card uses only one sheet of 6″ by 6″ paper!

Let's Make It

Use This Card Layout to Create Your Holiday CardsLet me show you how to use this card layout to create your holiday cards.  These are step by step instructions for making one card.  They are in an order that allows for mass production.  Just do a step as many times as necessary to cycle through all the cards you are making.

  1. Fold and burnish the score line for the card base
  2. Stamp the greeting on the die cut circle towards the top
  3. Make the tree:
    1. Use tape to mask the tree stamp leaving only the trunk exposed
    2. Stamp the trunk on scrap Basic White
    3. Stamp the background of the tree in second generation Mossy Meadow
    4. Stamp the detail of the tree in Mossy Meadow
    5. Die cut the tree
    6. Attach to circle die cut using Mini Stampin Dimensionals
  4. Cut the 5 1/8″ by 4″ piece of designer series paper:
    1. Cut 1 3/8″ off the 5 1/8″ side
    2. Now you have a 3 3/4″ square
    3. Cut that down to three 1 1/8″ by 3 3/4″ strips
  5. Attach the bottom strip to the bottom center of the Pecan Pie layer – make sure the side and bottom gutters are even
  6. Attach the center small strip making sure the top and bottom gutters are even
  7. Attach the other two strips to the right and left
  8. Glue this layer to the card base
  9. Using the leftover paper from your 6″ by 6″ sheet cut a 4″ strip to put at the bottom of the Basic White layer
  10. Add the Basic White layer to the inside of the card
  11. Add the Pecan Pie layer to the outside of the card
  12. Attach the die cut circle to the lower center portion of the card using Stampin' Dimensionals
  13. Add three Pecan Pie embellishments to your card

This close up of the tree should help you see that I used Pecan Pie and Mossy Meadow to create it.  I used second generation Mossy Meadow for the lighter green.  This just means I inked up the tree and then stamped it on scratch paper before stamping it above the trunk of the tree.

The Sketch

scrap sketch layout

Even though the card in this post uses designer series papers and they are spread across the three top strips to complete the pattern.  You can use so many other types of scraps with this layout.  Here are some suggestions:

  • coordinating paper scraps
  • coordinating rectangle die cuts of card stock
  • coordinating die embossed scraps

Your Turn

My two big thoughts when making this card were:

  1. This sketch is so versatile that you can use it over and over
  2. This card would be so easy to mass produce
