No Stamping Congrats Grad Card

Late Spring can be a wonderful time of year. For many you are coming out of the winter blues and cold. For some, like us, you are welcoming the sweltering heat with dread as we plunge into summer. That's two very different views of Spring, but one constant is graduations. This right of passage whether you're celebrating a Kindergartener or PhD. I created today's card for our great nephew. No bling since it's for a guy with basic textures and colors. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think.

PRO TIP:  I've included a lot of instructions related to using alphabet dies to create words on cards.  Even if you don't plan to make a grad card – give this post a quick read.  I think you'll find some helpful tips!

THOUGHTS ON CUTTING

For this card I like to use larger cuts of card stock in order to make patterns so I can put the card together quickly. What does that mean? For the “CONGRATS” I laid the letters out on grid paper making sure I liked the way they were lined up. Then I used low-tack tape to hold them together with that spacing. Next I measured the height and length of the full word and used that as my guide to cut my card stock. I cut one piece of blue card stock and two pieces of white. The white letters were used to stack the letters and give them more dimension without having to deal much with glue – which can be messy when you have such narrow letters.
I repeated this method using the black and white card stock for the GRAD.

CUTTING YOUR LAYERS

  • BASIC WHITE CARD BASE – 8 1/2″ BY 5 1/2″
  • BASIC WHITE LAYER – 5 1/4″ BY 4″
  • AFTERNOON AZURE SCRAP – big enough for word and stars
  • BASIC BLACK SCRAP – big enough for word
*make sure all the layers for letters have Adhesive Sheets on the back of them
congrats grad card

ASSEMBLING YOUR CARD

  1. Emboss Basic White layer and attach to card base with Multipurpose Liquid Glue
  2. Die cut the words as explained in the THOUGHTS ON CUTTING section above. Save one of the white cut outs from each word to make assembly easy.
  3. Using the negative space as a template place one set of the white letters in each space.
  4. Continuing with the template, remove the adhesive sheet release paper from the second white set of letters and attach to bottom layer.
  5. Finally attach color layer after removing release paper.
  6. Place a piece of Press n' Seal over the top of the colored letters.
  7. Turn template over and carefully remove release paper.
  8. Flip your word back over and place on die embossed Basic White layer.
  9. Repeat the steps above to create the second word.
  10. Add stars using Mini Stampin' Dimensionals
