The masking technique is one of the first I learned when I began rubber stamping. I used to make Button Bear hold a present or a flower. I also made lots of birthday cards with him wearing a cute birthday hat using the masking technique.
The masking technique is very simple. Follow these quick steps for success every time:
- Stamp the image that will be “masked” on a sticky note with some of the image on the sticky part of the note
- Cut out the image leaving a small border (between 1/16″ and 1/8″)
- To stamp over an image:
- Stamp the image on the card
- Place the sticky note over the stamped image
- Stamp onto the card so that the ink goes on the sticky note and not the card
- To create a foreground image:
- Stamp the foreground image on the card (for example a birthday hat)
- Place the sticky note over the stamped image
- Stamp onto the card and sticky note with the background image (for example Button Bear)
